The Bay Area Rally hosted thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the United States and the World to the Clear Lake Area. This event was held at Space Center Houston, adjacent to the Lyndon B. Johnson National Aeronautical Space Facility (NASA).
The rally lasted four days and four nights and featured events and activities at the Space Center Houston during the day. At night, there were scheduled events and motorcycle rides in surrounding communities and destinations such as Historic League City, The San Jacinto Monument, Moody Gardens on Galveston Island and the Kemah Boardwalk.
There were over 80,000 square feet of vendor space and they have been awarded the title “The AMA Texas Rally” and Signature event with daily give-a-aways. There was also the Texas Women’s Riders Symposium, classic motorcycle show and auction, MST safety classes and courses, daily poker runs and tours, boat cruises, entertainment stage, BBQ Cook off, two parades and special Rock the Dock Venue at Kemah Boardwalk.
The Bay Area Rally is a sister rally to the Golden Aspen that is held annually in Ruidoso, NM. The Golden Aspen has proudly celebrated 38 years and attracts approximately 35,000 visitors from 32 states and 6 countries every year.
The Bay Area Rally also held the first Annual Outlaw Music Festival on April 12, 2008. The festival was held in conjunction with the Bay Area Rally and Yuri's Night. Performances began at Noon and continued until 10 p.m.. Boeing was the proud sponsor of Yuri's Night and presented Grammy nominated Texas Legend Billy Joe Shaver.
Yuri's Night is an international celebration held on April 12 every year to commemorate the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and the first Space Shuttle launched on April 12, 1981. In 2008, people celebrated together on April 12th in over 40 individual events and 20 countries around the world. Worldwide Locations included Los Angeles, Stockholm, Antarctica, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Houston and the International Space Station.
The Houston 2008 celebration, hosted by the American Astronautical Society shaped up to be the largest space celebration in history! They celebrated the 50th anniversary of space flight and planned a celebration that was the first of its kind in Houston. The Yuri’s Night Houston organization has partnered with the organizers of the Bay Area Motorcycle Rally to throw a celebration that attracted thousands of visitors from around the United States and the World!
The inaugural Houston event included a huge exhibit area, a Texas music festival, two VIP areas, a David Beverly Memorial Ride and a ton of educational events. This event is supported by the local cities, chambers of commerce, and numerous sponsors.
